Terms of service

Effective September 27, 2026

frugl is a budgeting tool, not financial advice and not a bank. The first 30 days are free with no payment details taken, and a subscription is needed after that to keep adding to it. What you log stays on your iPhone, which also means you are the only one who can back it up.

Agreeing to these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Addison Black, an independent developer in California, United States, who makes and publishes frugl. By downloading or using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use frugl.

frugl is offered only in the United States, and these terms are written for people who live there.

This agreement is between you and us alone. It is not an agreement with Apple, though Apple has rights under it that are set out near the end.

What frugl is, and what it is not

frugl is a budgeting tool. It keeps track of numbers you type in yourself and shows them back to you in ways we hope are useful — jars and limits, spending over time, goals, projections, and a sprout called Sprig who reacts to how the month is going.

frugl is not a bank, a lender, a broker, or any kind of financial institution. It does not connect to your bank accounts, it does not move or hold money, and it never sees a real balance. Every figure in the app is one you entered.

Nothing in frugl is financial, investment, tax, accounting or legal advice. Its projections and reports are arithmetic performed on what you told it, not predictions and not recommendations. Decisions about your money are yours, and we would gently suggest talking to a qualified professional before any large one.

Your license to use frugl

We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to use frugl on any Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. frugl may also be used by other accounts associated with the purchaser through Family Sharing or volume purchasing, where available. You do not own the app itself; you are licensed to use it.

You agree not to:

  • Copy, sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the app
  • Reverse engineer, decompile or try to extract its source code, except where law expressly permits it
  • Work around, disable or tamper with the subscription or any part of the app that checks it
  • Use frugl for anything unlawful, or in any way that harms other people

You must also comply with any third-party terms that apply when you use frugl, such as your wireless carrier’s data service agreement.

Your free 30 days

frugl is free to use for its first 30 days so you can decide whether it suits you before paying for it. Your free 30 days ask for no payment details and are not a subscription, so there is nothing to cancel and nothing is ever charged automatically when they end.

When your free 30 days are up, frugl asks you to subscribe. You are only charged if you choose a plan and confirm the purchase yourself. Until you do, everything you have already logged stays on your iPhone, stays readable and can still be exported — what stops is adding and changing.

The free 30 days are given once per iPhone. Deleting and reinstalling frugl, or using Reset all data, does not start them again.

Subscriptions, billing and renewal

After your free 30 days, frugl requires a paid subscription to keep adding to it and changing it. frugl offers two auto-renewing subscriptions, monthly and annual, which unlock the same features. The price and billing period of each are shown on the purchase screen before you confirm anything, and payment is charged to your Apple Account when you do.

  • Your subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends
  • Renewal is charged within the 24 hours before the current period ends
  • To cancel or change plans, open iOS Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Subscribers can also go to Settings › Subscription › Manage in the App Store inside frugl. We cannot cancel for you
  • Canceling stops the next renewal. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for
  • If the price of your plan goes up, Apple will notify you in advance and, where required, ask you to agree before your next renewal

If a payment fails or a subscription ends, you can no longer add or change entries. Everything you have logged stays on your iPhone, stays readable and can still be exported, and editing comes back as soon as you subscribe again.

Refunds

Purchases are handled entirely by Apple, which means refunds are Apple’s to give and not ours. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com, and requests are decided under Apple’s policies rather than by us.

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived.

Your data is yours

Everything you enter in frugl belongs to you. It is stored on your own iPhone and we have no copy of it, which is the point of how the app is built and is set out in full in the Privacy policy.

It also means one thing worth being plain about: you are the only person who can protect it. If you delete the app, erase it with Reset all data, or lose or damage your iPhone, that data is gone and we cannot recover it for you. We have nothing to recover it from. Export data is how you keep a copy of your own.

Who can use frugl

You must be at least 13 to use frugl. If you are under the age of majority where you live (18 in most states), you may only use frugl with the permission of a parent or guardian, who accepts these terms for you.

Changes to the app

frugl is made by one person, and it changes. We may add features, alter them, or remove ones that are not working, and we may need to stop supporting older versions of iOS over time. We may also stop offering the app altogether, though if that happens we will give what notice we reasonably can.

We do not promise the app will always be available or always be free of faults, only that we will take it seriously when it is not.

No warranty

To the fullest extent the law allows, frugl is provided as it is and as it is available, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error free, or that any calculation it shows will suit your circumstances.

Some states do not allow warranties to be excluded, and where that is so, this section applies only as far as it lawfully can.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost savings, or lost or corrupted data, arising out of your use of frugl.

This matters most in one particular way, so it is worth saying directly: we are not responsible for financial decisions you make while using frugl, or for any loss that follows from them. The app shows you arithmetic on figures you entered. The judgment is yours.

Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you actually paid for frugl in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Apple

These terms are between you and us only. Apple is not a party to them. We, and not Apple, are solely responsible for frugl and its contents.

  • We, and not Apple, are solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support for frugl, as described in these terms or as required by law. You can reach us at support@usefrugl.com. Apple has no obligation whatsoever to provide any maintenance or support for frugl
  • We, and not Apple, are solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent they are not effectively disclaimed. If frugl fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price for frugl to you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation of any kind regarding frugl, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to any warranty are our sole responsibility
  • We, and not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim by you or any third party relating to frugl or your possession and use of it, including product liability claims, any claim that frugl fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and any claim arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation
  • We, and not Apple, are solely responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement and discharge of any claim that frugl or your possession and use of it infringes a third party’s intellectual property rights
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and once you accept them, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary

You confirm that you are not in a country subject to a United States Government embargo or designated as a terrorist supporting country, and that you are not on any United States Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

Ending this agreement

You can end it at any time by canceling any subscription and deleting the app. We may end it, or suspend your access, if you break these terms in a serious way. The sections on warranties, liability and governing law carry on afterward.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them. If a change materially affects what you are agreeing to, we will say so in the app rather than leaving you to find it. Continuing to use frugl after a change means you accept the new terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of frugl will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California, and you and we both agree to those courts hearing it.

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived.

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest of them carry on unaffected.
