About frugl
frugl is a personal budgeting app designed to make managing money feel simple, approachable, and a little less intimidating. With an aesthetic, thoughtfully designed interface and an emphasis on ease of use, frugl strips away the complexity often associated with budgeting apps and focuses on the things people actually need to understand their spending. The result is a budgeting experience that feels less like financial software and more like an app you actually want to use.
At the heart of frugl are Jars, a simple way to organize everyday spending. Users choose the categories that fit their life, set a monthly limit for each, and log expenses in just a couple of seconds as they go. All standard features expected in a budgeting app. What makes frugl stand out is Sprig, frugl’s little plant companion. His mood changes with the user’s spending, offering an at-a-glance sense of how the month is going, while he grows through new life stages the longer frugl is used. Beyond everyday tracking, frugl includes spending analytics, income tracking, savings goals, projections, a 'Still Want It?' section, and the frugl Report, which turns the month’s numbers into an easy-to-understand summary.
frugl is also designed with privacy at its core. Budgeting data stays on the user’s iPhone, with no bank account connection required and no need to hand over a detailed financial history to use the app. The result is a budgeting experience that stays simple and private while still giving users the tools to better understand their money, with a little encouragement from Sprig along the way.
Manual-entry budgeting only works if people keep using it, and that’s often the hardest part. Logging expenses can quickly start to feel like another task on a to-do list, making it easy to fall out of the habit even when someone genuinely wants to keep a closer eye on their money.
Sprig was created with that problem in mind. Rather than relying on reminders, streaks, or pressure to keep users engaged, frugl gives them something to come back to. Sprig reacts to how the month is going, offers a little encouragement along the way, and grows over time as users continue showing up. The goal isn’t to turn budgeting into a game. It’s to make the small, repetitive act of keeping track of your money feel a little more rewarding — and, hopefully, enjoyable enough to stick with.
Who makes it

Addison Black
Founder
I built frugl on my own with a pretty simple goal: make budgeting feel like less of a chore. I have personally always struggled to stick with a budget, so I decided to make this app as warm, comforting, and enjoyable as possible. Sprig came from that same idea, giving you a little encouragement and something to look forward to each time you come back.
