Privacy policy

Effective September 27, 2026

Everything you log in frugl — your jars, expenses, income, goals and plans — is stored on your own iPhone and is never sent to us. We have no account system, no analytics, and no way to see your numbers.

Who we are

frugl is made and published by Addison Black, an independent developer based in California, United States. You can reach us any time at support@usefrugl.com.

This policy covers the frugl app for iPhone, which is offered only in the United States. It does not cover anything else you might reach from your phone.

What frugl stores on your iPhone

frugl keeps what you enter in a database file inside the app’s own private storage on your iPhone, where other apps cannot read it. That includes:

  • Your jars and the monthly limit you set on each one
  • Expenses you log: the amount, a name, which jar, and the date
  • Income you log, including anything you set to repeat
  • Goals, their targets and what you have put toward them
  • Saved projections and anything sitting in Still Want It?
  • Your first name if you give one, your chosen currency, your reminder settings, and Sprig’s progress

None of this is transmitted anywhere. It is not backed up to us, because there is no us to back it up to. It stays on your iPhone until you erase it with Reset all data, or until you delete the app.

Two small values are kept separately in your iPhone’s Keychain: the random ID described under Subscriptions and payment, and the date your free 30 days began. Neither is financial data. They stay in the Keychain when you delete frugl or use Reset all data, so that the free 30 days are not given out twice and a reinstalled app recognizes your subscription without a restore. Erasing your iPhone removes them.

If your iPhone is set to back itself up to iCloud, that backup may include frugl’s data along with every other app’s. That backup is between you and Apple, and is governed by Apple’s terms rather than this policy.

The widget and reminders

If you add the Left to Spend widget, frugl places this month’s remaining amount in a storage area shared only with its own widget, so it can appear on your Home Screen. It never leaves your iPhone, but anyone who can see your Home Screen can see it.

Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone itself. None of them pass through a server of ours or anyone else’s. A Still Want It reminder names the item you are waiting on, so it may show on your Lock Screen depending on your notification settings. You can turn reminders off under Notifications in frugl’s Settings, or in iOS Settings.

Exporting and importing

Export data creates a readable, unencrypted file of everything you have logged and passes it to whatever you choose in the share sheet, such as Files, Mail or AirDrop. Once it leaves frugl, where it goes and who can read it is up to you. Import data reads only a file you pick, on your iPhone.

What we collect

Nothing about your money. frugl has no account to create, no sign-in, and no server of ours to talk to. We do not collect usage data, we do not run analytics or crash reporting, and we do not use any advertising or tracking identifier.

We cannot see your jars, your expenses, your income, or your goals. Not in aggregate, not anonymized, not at all.

There is one narrow exception, and it exists only so the app can tell whether you have paid: checking your subscription involves a randomly generated ID for your install and basic device information. What that is and who receives it is set out in the next section.

Subscriptions and payment

If you subscribe to frugl, the payment is taken by Apple through its own billing system. We never see or handle your card number, billing address, or any other payment detail.

To check whether your subscription is active, frugl uses RevenueCat, Inc. as a service provider. It receives a randomly generated app user ID that is not tied to your name or to any advertising identifier, the purchase receipt issued by Apple once there is one, and basic device information such as your iOS version and app version, along with your IP address as part of any internet connection. It uses these to validate purchases, to tell the app whether a subscription is current, and to record when this install was first seen, so that your free 30 days are counted correctly. It does not receive anything you have logged in frugl.

This check runs whenever the app starts, including during your free 30 days and after them, because the app has to know which state you are in before it can show you anything. It happens whether or not you have ever paid.

Through our billing provider we can see the purchase history tied to your install’s random ID: which plan, when it started and when it renews, its price, and whether it was refunded. We use this only to handle billing and answer support requests. We never see your name, your Apple ID, or your payment details.

RevenueCat, Inc. handles that data under its own privacy policy, at https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy, and as our service provider it is required to protect it with the same or equal protection as this policy. In the App Store’s privacy labels, this appears as Purchase History and User ID, used for app functionality and not used for tracking. Managing, changing or canceling a subscription is done in your Apple Account settings, not by us.

If you write to us

Contact us / Send feedback, in frugl’s Settings, opens your own mail app with a message ready to send. Nothing is sent until you send it. If you do, we receive your email address, whatever you wrote, and the app version and platform shown to you on that page before you send.

We use that only to answer you and to fix what you told us about. We do not add you to a mailing list and we do not use it for marketing. We keep the correspondence only as long as it is useful for support, and you can ask us to delete it.

No tracking, no ads, no selling

frugl shows no advertising. We do not track you across other apps or websites, which is why frugl never asks for permission to do so. We have no advertising identifiers and no advertising partners.

Because frugl does not track you, it behaves the same way whether or not your device or browser sends a Do Not Track signal.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are used in California law. We never have and we have no plans to.

Your rights over your data

Because your financial data never leaves your iPhone, most rights over it are ones you exercise directly, without asking us. Export data gives you a complete readable copy. Reset all data permanently erases everything you have logged, as does deleting the app. Your reminder settings are kept through Reset all data, and the two Keychain values described above are kept through both.

For the little we do hold — correspondence, if you have written to us, and the subscription record our billing provider keeps against your install’s random ID — you have the right to ask what we have, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, and to receive a copy. If you are a California resident, you have the rights to know, delete and correct, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, though there is nothing to opt out of, because we do neither.

To exercise any of these, email support@usefrugl.com and we will answer within 30 days. For anything about your subscription record, include the Support ID shown under Subscription in frugl’s Settings, so we know which record is yours. We will not treat you differently for asking.

Children

frugl is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children. You must be at least 13 to use it.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us something, write to support@usefrugl.com and we will delete it.

How long things are kept

  • What you log in frugl: on your iPhone, until you erase it or remove the app
  • The random install ID and the date your free 30 days began: in your iPhone’s Keychain until the device is erased, and with our billing provider alongside your purchase history
  • Subscription records: held by Apple and our billing provider under their own retention policies, or until you ask us to have our billing provider’s record deleted
  • Emails you send us: kept while they are useful for support, then deleted on request

Security

Your data sits in the app’s private storage area, which iOS keeps separate from other apps and protects with the device’s own encryption when you have a passcode set. Setting a passcode or Face ID on your iPhone is the single most useful thing you can do to protect what is in frugl.

No system is perfectly secure, but the risk here is unusually small for a simple reason: we hold nothing of yours to lose.

Where data is processed

Everything we or our billing provider handle is processed in the United States. Your logged financial data is not transferred anywhere, because it does not leave your iPhone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. If a change materially affects what is collected or who receives it, we will say so in the app rather than leaving you to notice.
